Would someone with narcissistic personality, have limited insight and understanding of others?

One of my children is very self-absorbed and really self-centered, I am afraid. I kept hoping she would outgrow this as an adult, but she is now 32 and this is still a big part of her personality. So back to my original question: Do these people have limited insight and empathy with others?
