What cars are similar to a Chevrolet Cobalt?

Recently had my 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt totaled. Looking for a new car. Not sure what other make/models are similar as far as nice small cars for good prices ($9,000-$10,000 for a 2008 or newer). The Toyota Corolla is the only other I'm familiar with. Any suggestions?
